January 01, 2020

Heidehonk is a community centre for the neighbourhood of Woenselse Heide. It offers facilities for groups who are searching for a place to organise their activities. In addition, Heidehonk themselves organise several activities. Their activities are focused to bring the neighbourhood together and open to people of all ages. At the Heidehonk everyone can come and play billiards on Monday and Thursday night. The table is also used by a closed group of players several times during the week. On Tuesday people come together to play bridge all afternoon. There are also coming people from other neighbourhoods to the Heidehonk for this activity.

The Table Tennis Club Woenselse Heide is hosted here. The play every Monday and Tuesday evening. On Thursday night you can learn to line dance. The lessons are given by an enthusiastic man who has been teaching line dancing for over 15 years.

One day a year ‘burendag’ is organized. Woenselse Heide is a very multi-cultural neighborhood, and during this day everyone is invited to show something about their culture. There’s a street full of market stalls that people can use to show their culture by food or artworks. At the end of the street is a stage for cultural performances like dancing and playing music.

One day a year ‘opruimdag’ is organized. Organized by Buurt Preventie Woenselse Heide, Buro Cement and the municipality of Eindhoven, all people of the neighborhood are asked to join. During one day, they will all together clean every little part of their neighborhood. This day is a great opportunity to get to know more neighbors and work together for every one’s interest. Some of the elderly see it as a nice opportunity to get in touch with the youth, some others enjoy working for everyone’s same goal.

One day a year ‘straatspeeldag’ is organized. At this day the entire neighborhood transforms in a giant playground. Several inflatable bouncers are hired and at every corner of the street is a game. Parents, teachers from primary schools and other residents of the neighborhood all volunteer to assist and guide one of the games. Children can get a stamp per game they did and they get a small gift with a full card.
